Yoga teaches us to face the fear and do it anyways. I’ve likened myself to a butterfly, as I’ve spent many years preferring the small and fearful cocoon of the ego, my inner critic. Through yoga I’ve been able to release my inner child and experience the expansive joy of freedom. My work is rooted in helping others do the same. I guide students through visualizations, mindful experiences, and creative exercises to help them wipe away the dust from the mirror, see their true selves, and set up purposeful lives. I’m here to help you grow out of the cocoon and be courageous through change.
I first became fascinated with the physical aspect of yoga, as I followed along to my mom’s yoga and pilates DVDs when I was a kid. When I entered into the working world I realized I was missing an important piece of yoga in my life—mindfulness. Struggling with work anxiety and recovering from an exercise-related injury, I knew I needed to learn how to slow down and increase awareness. I began practicing meditation and completed my 200-hour meditation teacher training with Charlie Knoles of The Veda Center. Since moving to Nashville to attend Belmont University, I had been practicing at Sanctuary Yoga where I met Tom and eventually enrolled in Sanctuary’s 200-hour yoga teacher training program. Meanwhile, I was also studying at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition where I became a certified health coach, specializing in plant based nutrition, mindfulness, and stress reduction.
After teaching yoga and meditation around Nashville at a variety of studios and with private clients, my most recent work has been focused on creating meaningful experiences that combine all aspects of yoga. Whether it is a mindful eating meditation or inner mentor visualization, I believe in the power of yoga, meditation, journaling, self-study, and mindfulness to awaken ourselves and transform all aspects of our lives into meaning and purpose.
I started my personal blog and YouTube channel, Meditate Kate, where I emphasize taking your yoga practice off the mat and into your daily life through mindful and spiritual living. I’m excited to bring this mission into OMFaY and help you “medikate” to become the highest version of yourself.
When I’m not practicing yoga, I’m hiking or paddle boarding with my dog Frisco, refining my cooking skills, or spending time with my family in Franklin.
